Behind The Lens At Whitley Hall Hotel - Nicky And Ryans Wedding

I arrived at Whitley Hall Hotel around 11:30 AM, buzzing with excitement for my very first wedding shoot! My first task was to meet up with Rob Carter, the lead photographer for the day. We went through the timeline, discussing how weddings usually flow and the specific plans for Nicky and Ryan’s big day. Rob also gave me a quick tour of the venue, pointing out the ceremony space, bridal suite, and the portrait area—a large grassy garden behind the historic building that promised some stunning shots.

Before the bride arrived, we focused on capturing the venue details: signs, decorations, and little touches that help tell the story of the day. Nicky had her hair and makeup done elsewhere, so we didn’t do much bridal prep, but photographing her putting on her dress and capturing the dress itself quickly became one of my favourite parts of the day. The mix of excitement, nerves, and emotion in the room was palpable and unforgettable.

As guests began arriving around 1 PM, we captured candid moments of the groomsmen, then returned to photograph Nicky’s first look with her father. The venue’s grand staircase, with its large window, provided perfect natural light, making the moment incredibly special.

The ceremony took place indoors under a beautiful skylight that bathed the couple in soft, natural light. Laughter, anticipation, and tears filled the room as Nicky walked down the aisle, awaiting at the end - Ryan and their youngest son—it was pure magic.

Afterward, guests moved outside for drinks in the gardens, highlighting why Whitley Hall is such a stunning venue. Nicky and Ryan had a special family tradition with cigars, which guests enjoyed during the reception. This naturally led into group portraits and couple shots. By this time, the sun had come out, creating perfect lighting for capturing bright, joyful images of the newlyweds.

The day continued with emotional speeches and toasts, followed by the wedding meal. To finish, we captured twilight shots outside the venue, producing some of the most romantic images of the day.

Being part of Nicky and Ryan’s wedding was an incredible experience. From capturing raw emotion to planning shots around the timeline and using natural light to my advantage, I learned so much. It was a day full of excitement, beauty, and memories—and I can’t wait for the next wedding adventure!
